Martin:
Shame about the publisher though. Stuff like this makes you want to
believe that Adobe care about these issues.

Martin, I applaud your efforts, and that of organizations like pro-imaging.org, to remind us of our responsibility as clients of Adobe to keep them responsive to the people that made them. They have done great things, but are now a very large ship with a lot of overhead. After a certain point, maintaining that overhead becomes key to all other decisions, usually to the detriment of the professional base that got them there. There are a lot of good people with Adobe, but sometimes the "suits" can steal the soul of a company. I think Adobe needs less fawning from us and more straight "talkback" from its pro base. The Acrobat/FedEx deal should have print shops in an outrage, not resigned disbelief, for example. So I feel we need jabs like yours to prod us to find ways to take action and beat back unfair practices by monopolies.

Ray Maxwell (about pricing):
If the local distributor and dealer does not add value, they should not
be allowed to add on to the price.

I applaud your sentiment, totally agree, and wish it were true, but we know it's not. "Free Market" thinking is full of myths about market realities.

Rick:
it's quite a challenge to affect corporate behavior when
the company you're targeting has a virtual monopoly on the market.
What's their incentive to change?

You are quite right, Rick, but sometimes it takes some mucking about, ruffling our hair, and shouting out to get heard against such odds. Sometimes it takes dropping our professional skins and shouting out any way we can. More effective tools are honed from rough edges. : >)

respectfully to all,

don
