Marco:
When a company gets as big as Adobe has become, don't you figure it's
inevitable that they will lose touch with their user base, on occasion?
Thanks for a great post, Marco.
I have seen no evidence so far of malicious conduct on Adobe's part (as in
something like: "Yea, you have a problem? Tough luck buddy, Har har har.").
Have you?
The initial responses to their European pricing disparity issue were
patronizing, to say the least. And while their jumping on the RF
bandwagon by incorporating it into their app was very disappointing to
me, it was defended from within by their photographer / evangelists,
which lowered their esteem, in my eyes. That was my impression. Maybe
some of those from inside can enlighten me about the internal RF
battle.
No, Adobe isn't Exxon Mobil or Halliburton, but if we don't make the
effort to keep them honest …
Here is a quote from CEO Bruce Chizen in response to criticism of the
Acrobat/FedEx/Kinko's decision:
"I have received numerous e-mails pointing out what a poor decision we made.
Clearly a mistake and we are sorry for that. We are currently looking for a
solution that works within the constraints of our contractual commitment
with Kinko¹s."

Thanks for that. Let's see what it produces. IMHO, that decisions
should have been a no brainer for Bruce. Did Adobe just try it to see
what would happen? No, a lot of thought was put into it, and the base
was clearly given the finger. That's my original point. The overall
direction is troubling.
That hardly sounds to me like either arrogance or a diversion tactic. One
wishes that other corporations (don't get me started...) would own up to
their mistakes this openly and willingly.
Quite. I don't see Adobe joining the military/industrial complex. : >)
And you're free to call me naïve and deluded,…
I would never do that. Monopoly capitalism, or whatever you want to
call it, has a sordid history in the US, and good CEO's can be quickly
booted. Perhaps I'm overly concerned about the disease spreading. It
has that tendency. : >)
I agree with you, Marco. Let's talk sensibly to Adobe while we still
can, and expect equal candor and honesty from them in return. But, to
all, let's talk to them. Don't let others do it for you.
Cheers,
don
