Hello Phil, hello Joseph,
The main difference between the Media Wedge version from 2004 and the new
one from 2007 is the analysis procedure.
The Fogra people decided to use smaller tolerances and to control additional
dH-values for the grey axis and the primaries. The TIFF-file itself is the
same.
Furthermore they differentiate today between the production control using
the Media Wedge and the certification of a proof printing system, which is
done using the Media Wedge and an additional IT8.7/4 target (or IT8.7/3 or
ECI2002).
Production control, Media Wedge:
--------------------------------
2004 2007
standard reference fogra27 fogra39
mean dE 4 3
max. dE 10 6
max. dE paper white sim. 3 3
max. dE primaries 5 5
mean dH grey axis (CMY) - 1.5
max. dH primaries - 2.5
Certification, Media Wedge + IT8.7/4:
-------------------------------------
- production control with Media Wedge has to be OK
- IT8.7/4: mean dE of all patches less than 4 dE
- IT8.7/4: mean dE of all patches on the surface of the color space less
than 4 dE too
- IT8.7/4: max. dE of 95% of all patches less than 6 dE (95%-quantile)
Everything very easy, clear and concise. Isn't it? ;-)
We'll release the new version 3.2 of basICColor catch control in about 2
Weeks. The software does both the new production control and the
certification analysis. All procedures are organized and controlled by
measurement jobs. This design offers a high level of automation and
operating safety together with flexibility.
Regards,
Markus Hitzler
