This brings to mind a question I was trying to find an answer to

The official answer is of course 'annually', but real world for a well
looked after device? Has anyone a recommendation?
The basic calibration is against the white reference, so you're
really talking drift in the reference I guess. I've seen some thermal
affects in the lamps that may be related to the lamp age, so
if a recalibration includes replacing the lamp, this could help.
I happened to do some checks between a few instruments using a
Colorchecker 24 patch card.
Spectrolino, several years old, never been factory recalibrated.
Eye-One Pro rev A, several years old, never been factory recalibrated.
Brand New Eye-One Pro Rev D.
Numbers are Delta E.
sl vs. i1A:
Total errors: peak = 1.274008, avg = 0.946647
sl vs. i1D:
Total errors: peak = 1.966638, avg = 0.776624
i1A vs. i1D:
Total errors: peak = 1.945551, avg = 0.790999
so there's not much correlation with time since factory calibration in the errors.
