Hello Nick,

One thing I do when I calibrate an i1 for spot colors is to measure the calibration tile before removing it from the craddle. I know what L*a*b* value to expect (in D50, 2 degree Observer for example) and is also a check to see if the device was well seated (Note: all calibration tiles are different, and associated to the device firmware). Of course, when instructed to calibrate in a profiling sequence you cannot do that, but it can be done separately. This is far from a "full calibration", but is nonetheles much better than a simple car warning light!

This brings to mind a question I was trying to find an answer to recently - Is there a recommended period after which an EyeOne should be recalibrated?
The official answer is of course 'annually', but real world for a well looked after device? Has anyone a recommendation?

Is there a way of doing a check on accuracy assuming the Diagnostic is coming up fine?

Thanks,

Nick.

But when I went back later and re-measured I got a new measurement
of 4.83 –
which is now under the <5 dE –

On what printer, ink, paper combo. how long time after the printing was the first measurement done and when was the second done? I am of course suspecting that the print has changed between measurements so you can fully expect the same measurements.

Have you tried making several consecutive measurements, with
calibration in between and without? This will give you a more
accurate picture of the instrument variability...

Best Regards
