Here's one interesting twist as for vectors and rasters.

I've seen artists create rich black backgrounds in a PDF with, say, 100%K
and 40%C and placed in InDesign for output, along with other images and
mixed graphics on the same PDF. No idea where this PDF was created, possibly
with AiCS.

What kind of controls would you want InDesign to offer on output to color
manage this kind of element?
