Thank you for sharing your experience.

It's good to hear that Wasatch has good support. That is a big issue of concern--one of those things that you don't often need help, but when you need it, you NEED it.

Richard

We have been running Wasatch for over ten years now on a variety of printers, including 2 hp 5000's currently in use. It has been very reliable, and not to hard to get around all the settings it offers. Tech support has been good too, for the few issues that have come up. They also offer a good upgrade policy that has worked well for us.

The RIP is capable of drive 4 printers at once, for no additional fee, which has proven to be an economic bonus.

We also have an Ergosoft Rip driving two printers, and it's been a good performer as well. Haven't tried it with the HP's.

Regards,

Hi all,
I've seen several posts regarding the HP Designjet 5500 wide format printer and would appreciate the benefit of your real-world wisdom regarding the best RIP option.

We just took delivery of one 5500ps with an onboard RIP and are in the process of purchasing a second unit as a replacement for our aging Oce printer/Onyx Postershop RIP (version 6.5).

We are considering purchasing the second unit with an external RIP to give us some flexibility in production. Basically, we'll use the printer with the onboard RIP as our "Kinko's" low-end product offering and the printer with the external RIP for our more color critical work and special medias.

Our options are to upgrade our existing copy of Postershop to version 7, or to invest in an alternate software RIP solution.

Any insights you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Richard
