No one has yet mentioned ColorBurst. It comes with an XRite Pulse (DTP 20?); has good documentation and support; can be set up to run via numerous predefined queues (which means unattended operation); has the usual ink limits, linearization, profilemaking abilities; automatic nesting within printer layouts; can drive multiple printers; and more. The exact features depend on which version you buy. Unfortunately, the CB RIP for the HPs only runs on Windows.

We have a 5500 and a 5000, both dye inks, for internal "proofing" of multiple media processes. I recently installed a CB RIP which is driving the 5500 now. I will add the 5000 when everyone is up to speed with the 5500/CB combination.

It has only been in use for a week now so other than setting it up my experience is limited. It does subjectively seem to control the color/ print quality/emulation very nicely (sorry, no delta e info or sense of consistency yet). It offers far better control, accuracy, and flexibility than the built-in RIP in the 5000ps and its canned profiles. Seems to play well with the Adobe CS2 Suite of apps (though I think I have some PDF issues to run to ground). And it is fast on a properly configured computer.

I am afraid I can't compare it to other ink-jet dedicated RIPS for you, but I do think ColorBurst is worth considering.
