This is a bug-a-boo, not a bug. John Meyer and I went back and forth
for a week, trying to (get me to) figure it out. It is, in the end,
easily doable, but for me, the hitch was a confusion (I'm still
confused) over what was meant by "machine ID" number. Here's an example...
I was licensed up through V4.0.2 on my Mac with the bassICColor Machine
ID 0017f2034490. Now the Hardware Address of my Mac (as found in
Apple's Network Utility) is 00:17:f2:03:44:90. Makes sense. Leave out
the colons and 00:17:f2:03:44:90 = 0017f2034490. So when I read that
"For the free update from version 4.0.x to version 4.1.x customers need
a NEW license file!" on the bassICColor website, I went to their
Licensing Page <http://license.basiccolor.de/lic.asp?
sessionId=a3x0rkwzy1pmk8vi&oemId=1&language=EN> and entered
"0017f2034490" in the box that asks for the Machine ID.
I spent a week trying to do, and redo this, until John finally got it
through my head that what bassICColor considers the Machine ID, IS NOT
THE SAME AS THE HARDWARE ADDRESS OF THE COMPUTER. It just so happened
that they used a truncated version of the computer's Hardware Address as
their Machine ID, but not so for the new software. My bassICColor
Machine ID on this computer for V4.1.2 is 0593900702-5, which isn't
vaguely similar to 00:17:f2:03:44:90.
So... In order to get a new license for V4.1.2, you need to launch an
unlicensed, or trial version of 4.1.2, and in the "About bassICColor"
window, or maybe a previous screen, you will see "Machine ID: ##########-
#". That's the number you need to use when applying for a permanent
V4.1.2 license file.
Hope this helps.
