Well, nobody told you to peek your Ethernet MAC address.
The manual clearly tells you where to find the machine-ID.
It even auto-generates the licensing request for you. There
is no need to do anything besides what the software tells
you.
And you don't need to uninstall or do the like to get the new
machine-ID. It will always tell you on the top of the license dialog.
Further more, when the new license file arrives you you just drop
it into your basICColor display folder and it will work. Old and new
license file can stay together and don't harm each other.
Again, there is no uninstall or removal of anything needed.
...just for the record...

I spent a week trying to do, and redo this, until John finally got it
through my head that what bassICColor considers the Machine ID, IS NOT
THE SAME AS THE HARDWARE ADDRESS OF THE COMPUTER. It just so happened
that they used a truncated version of the computer's Hardware
Address as
their Machine ID, but not so for the new software. My bassICColor
Machine ID on this computer for V4.1.2 is 0593900702-5, which isn't
vaguely similar to 00:17:f2:03:44:90.
