I have recently started experiments printing on thin papers (korean)using
custom pre-coats and the support method as described in Digital Art Studio
and an Epson 7800.
Just to share some of my working methods I am creating my own ink pre-coat
using liquid methyl cellulose from the local paper factory and add about 10%
PVA. Without the PVA the thin papers did not bond to the polypropylene
support. I haven't experimented on the quantities as yet, but I did find
that the ink adhesion and spread of color looks very close to the INKAID
equivalent.
I would like to make custom profiles for these papers and wondered if anyone
has any experience in just how to go about it. I have the Gretag Macbeth Eye
One and am using Match software.
I am printing with the Epson driver using Qimage. The media setting I have
chosen is Enhanced Matte poster board. I chose this because the surface is
basically matte and because of the thick sheet carrier. Just what media
setting I should use is a mystery.
As I intend to mount (perhaps even glue) sheets of the printed thin papers
together onto a prepared surface to make a much larger work, should I read
the color swatches when building a profile with the thin paper placed over
the final surface color I will bind them to? Or should I use several layers
of the same paper underneath when taking the readings?
What do I need to do to get the best Dmax and color saturation?
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
