IT8 life

I recently built some rather crappy scanner profiles, and suspect it's my old IT8s. Previous profiles from same are very good. Anybody have a suggested lifespan for these? They are color film and paper after all.
For that matter, anyone have any advice on how often a good drum scanner should be reprofiled?
