I presume you have seen the GMG RIP's unique approach to doing RGB to CMYK
conversion? It's not using an ICC RGB to ICC CMYK sort of workflow but
rather an RGB to CMYK devicelink-alike "profile" (embodied in what they call
an MX4 file). Jim was commenting earlier about some of the the proprietary
gamut mapping options that GMG uses which you may be familiar with because
of your work with argyll. But understand that no other RIPs that I'm
familiar with, today, offer this kind of functionality or even come close to
the quality of GMG "RGB" output. I'm really not working for these people,
btw, and I have no vested interest in promoting GMG against any other
brands. I think it's a good product. On top of being an excellent proofing
CMYK RIP. Never thought it could do wonders with RGB as well.
