This makes a lot of sense. But you'll have to admit that, in order to
embrace the Standard Observer, we have to give up a lot, psychologically.
And that in the end, it is a very "un-human" thing to do. Which reminds me
of a recent experiment I participated in where the presenter would have us
all accept that 2 DeltaE 94 is as good as anything we can get. It was a case
of comparing a G7 calibrated proof to a G7-calibrated run, on a sheetfed
press. The numbers were saying that the match was quite honorable but our
eyes were telling us otherwise! No one in the audience was prepared to give
up the deep sense they had that they could all do better than 2 DeltaE 94.
But, now, with hindsight, I must confess that the idea is growing on me.
Especially in view of the roller-costers variation I see on some presses,
day in and day out.
