Hi Mike
Hi Louis,
GRACOL are NOT printing sepcifications but a METHOD to meet the ISO
specs.
Getting into semantics now, but Gracol is most assuredly a printing
specification, as is SWOP. G7 is the methodology, and has been adopted
by both specifications. GATF is...well, GATF.
Agree. I ment G7, sorry.
FTA is supporting the G7 method, NOT matching the CIELab value of
offset ink... I hope!
Current flexo CIELab targets (per FIRST 3.0) are dependent on
substrate
and ink type, and are not identical to Gracol or SWOP specifications.
However, they are not terribly far off, and some Flexo printers have
worked with their ink suppliers to achieve a lower delta toward CIELab
targets specified by Gracol and SWOP.
OK. And how about ink trapping comparison?
Ok, and for example, why limit the gamut of silkscreen ink to the
gamut
of offset press when you can profit of its extended gamut to better
match saturated colors?
How about for the same reason offset printers can benefit from
"standardized" printing...process agnostic consistency. This reasoning
is likely devoid of meaning for many flexo /silscreen printers who
have
no need to do so, and certainly extended gamut has its place.
My point was simply about using Gracol Coated1 V2 profile as the CMYK
destination profile used for flexo (proofing and conversion) that
Roger was refering.
Mike
