I agree and feel, based on my work with X-Rite and their new ColorMunki
(awesome hardware, not so for software), they blew it here big time. Do
designers and new users of color management, who this product is aimed
really need to be asked about what damn gamma they should set to calibrate
their displays? The software is really just i1 Match with a glossed over UI,
but the issues of making color management easier for this market segment
hasn't improved I'm afraid to report. I place this blame (if I can) squarely
on the folks in the US at X-Rite who designed this product. Shame. The
hardware really is quite nice for this price point, something that does
bring new users into the color management fold.

You'd think a company that really wants this new market would have spent
more time on the software. I can't even comment on the stability or lack of
serious bugs in the product since the beta was so rushed and worse, I can't
use the "released" version on my beta hardware. Time will tell how the
market reacts.
Only a very few companies that make both hardware and software do both well.
I don't know if X-Rite considers itself a hardware company first and
software 2nd (that's my belief if you look at what they've done). This is a
classic by myopic mindset.
There's some seriously cool color technology going on here, I'll give
someone credit for that. The quality of the profiles I've made to various
devices with only 100 patches is amazing. The user experience in making
those profiles? Not so hot.
