is a ludicrous position.
Designers are famous for being fussy pains-in-the-neck (ask any
printer) and if they can't face entering the CM labyrinth it's
because of the daunting levels of geekage and incomprehensible
complication involved.
And anyway, beyond having a good calibrated screen to make reliable
design decisions, I don't think it's practical for designer's to
produce contract type proofs in-house, if that's what this debate
is about. Isn't it the job of the pre-press house and the printer
to produce accurate colour?
Maybe the ColorMunki will make in-house proofing more accessible,
which will shift technical responsibilities around yet again, and
might be a good thing, though from what Andrew Rodney says about
the software, maybe not.

Most designers are very much too picky. So picky that it cripples
their ability to think objectively. Others are in charge of burning
budgets and like to justify wasting time and money. And most would
rather push off responsibilities to others because it's easier to
plead stupidity then to apply themselves through education.
Furthermore, I have actually been fired from a job once when I showed
a color house how to utilize color management. When you can save the
client 10 thousand dollars on each image, you pretty much get fired
from the shop you work at. Color houses are in the business of
waste. It's pretty much as sad state of affairs to be honest, but
that is how the world works in corporate.
Not my idea of a good thing, but eventually you give up on trying to
educate people. Also some people just stop learning at a some point
in their lives for whatever reason and can't or don't want to go any
further. Some try and fail. Some don't care. Some do care.
The point is, there is not enough money for a company like X-Rite to
be profitable unless they create a retard version of color process
control that is cheap, fast and somewhat accurate.
