A big question I have is what is the difference between Bill Atkinson's it8.7 4 chart and the one generated out of Colorport (? Are they not the same 1617 patches? Why is Bill's "better"?

As far as I can tell they are the same and CP's is better for it's greater compatibility. Bill's RGB 1728 target is better than CP's because Bill's is 16bits and visually rich.
