Can anyone provide accurate information about 16 bit printing workflow for
Epson, Canon, HP. Been working with the new Epson drivers with 3800, 4800,
4880, 9880, as well as Canon's plug-in for 8100. From tests it seems that
the Canon PS plug-in actually shows significant increase in rendering tonal
transitions between 8 bit and 16 bit, etc. Have not seen the same results
from the new Epson drivers in Leopard (no noticeable improvement in quality
between 8 bit and 16 bit). Note- have not tested through Color Burst (or any
other RIP- just made the switch to Leopard over the summer- configuring over
50 Macs in our labs)
Our machines are all printing directly from Photoshop (via the plug-in
through CS3 with the Canon) over a LAN. Heard a rumor that 10.5 data
pipeline along with the Epson drivers doesn't actually support 16 bit
workflow- that there's some architecture issue that won't be resolved until
Snow Leopard arrives next year. (while the info from Apple - Andrew Rodney
discussion post, and others- have stated the 16 bit pipeline is already
possible through 10.5)
Any information about configurations and settings, etc. Or just accurate
information about the actual functionality of 16 bit output workflow would
be greatly appreciated.
