Edmund ,
always SO nice to hear from you.
want the short answer?
The "list" of companies that ARE following the quote standards is
short.
we would love it if all followed the same protocols. they dont.
That means hardware and software makers.
you could then actually create such a diagnostic.
until they do, you cannot! also get the computer companies to agree
NOT to ignore these issues up front , instead of letting the horse out
of the barn this will continue.
in order to have your perfect world you would need the video card
companies and monitor companies and the computer to all agree on how
these calls will happen. they dont.
an OS update comes out and we ALL find out the hard way.
so what i get to do? install this update and start finding out which
machines in which configs break. this involves putting machines out
of commission just to find out what "undocumented" fix is coming this
way this time.
so far, i find this only happening on PPC configs.
Maybe I shouldnt follow up next time on what started with only one
user here, about three days ago . Thank you Doyle, i sincerely do
appreciate your heads up.
Edmund, I'll let you find out yrslf the hard way.
Then you can re-image your own machines because nobody wanted to come
on here and save you some time.
Profit??? HA! hardly. im one of many taking the calls on why this
all of the sudden doesnt work. How would you call chasing down "what
happened now " profiting?
Whats funny about this, and maybe this would be a good time to say
this.................
One such company that "doesnt adhere to the laughable "standard" is
EIZO. its events just like this that i would have to say I support
their insightful reason to NOT adhere to the "Standard" to avoid just
this type of support havoc they would fall into.
this argument you wish to start has NOTHING to do with color
management companies, period! they fall victim to it by finding out
AFTER the computer companies pull the trigger.
Point your frustration where it belongs. color management still
thought of AFTER everything else.

Derrick,
Enough!
Everyone in the color industry refuses to implement diagnostic tools.
Then when something doesn't work it is always someone else's fault -
Adobe, Apple, Integrated Color, Xrite.
Why can't the DDC specs for the monitors be public and documented ?
Instead you and other companies profit from the good "private"
relationships that you have with the monitor makers which allow you
access to the SDKs.
Why can't there be a clear pass/fail test to see whether an
application is applying CMS correctly, with the apposite profiles and
rendering ?
Why is there no test tool that would allow a user to verify whether a
profile is being applied correctly to the data being sent to an inkjet
printer ?
There is a general complacency in the color industry, that such tools
are not necessary. It's not quite a conspiracy, but almost. Now you
claim Apple has "broken" DDC with the latest update. I'm quite willing
to believe that, but seeing that the DDC behavior of monitors is not
fully documented, you and others are now in a bad position to claim
that it is broken.
