So, it's very possible that
these TIFF images have become corrupted somehow, Martin? Perhaps recreating
them fresh would help? But these images are not "clean", in my view. Did

start as CS, CS1 or CS2 document?

The document was native CS3 I believe.

The images were changed from PSD to tif and re-imported as fresh files before saving the whole thing as an example - so the images themselves are above suspicion in my opinion.

However, the scaling and position of the first image is what is unearthing some weakness in InDesign's code.

Scale that image to 100% and the problem will disappear. Resize it to exactly the same size as the box it sits in and the problem will disappear.

The PDF output in InDesign is untrustworthy. It not only fails to clip a simple bitmap properly but also fails to do so in different ways dependent on what combination of printer's marks you choose to incorporate in the PDF :(

I would report it directly to Adobe, but here in the UK they don't allow you to report bugs unless you have a support contract. I tried to report a bug in Photoshop last year and was told by the helpful customer support person that I'd have to give Adobe my credit card number before they'd connect me with the technical people.

The deal being that if the tech guys agreed that it was indeed a bug then they wouldn't bill me. If they didn't agree that it was a bug then I'd be charged for their time.

I don't mind wasting my time reporting bugs but I'm certainly not going to waste my money having some Adobe tech telling me that these problems are really *features*.

Another reason that I just love Adobe...
