What kind of cameras are you referring to? I've been doing art repro
with digital backs, primarily Hassey, for 5 years, and gave up on
back profiling years ago. However, the software that drives my backs
has a repro mode, which eliminates the curve most software /
firmware adds to images by default. Also, using a series of known
targets within the shot area for the art repro does wonders. Giclées
are virtual copies of the originals.
Curious to hear more - I haven't look at back profiling in probably
2 to 3 years now, cause it wasn't mature enough back then!
My clients, and myself, are using Better Light digital scanning backs
in 4x5 cameras. Use of scanning cameras, with some special techniques
developed at Better Light, and profiling the scanning back, results in
very good reproductions.
