Chances are it has an EFI-Fiery front end ie: Command Workstation. Use the
"Manage Color" function under the server menu and start with calibration.
After that, print your profile patches using that calibration set and upload
your subsequently created output profile to the front end by -once again-
using the Manage Color function's profile manager. Finally, in the Color
Settings select that output profile as the default or change on the fly to
other profiles by adjusting the advanced color settings in the job
properties; located by right-clicking on a print job in the queue.

Martin,
I think you caught some genuine bugs and it would help everyone if they
found their way into Adobe's engineering team -- I feel your pain.

I do check every PDF I produce but I may have miss the occasional problem,

Sounds like a known issue. Unfortunately, the poster does not mention
whether he'd reported it to Adobe?

"Calibration matrix"? As in "correction matrix" perhaps? If that's what
you're refering to, the only such animal that approaches this concept is
Eizo's ColorNavigator v5 instrument-specific correction matrix. I,
personally, have not ran across any monitor/instrument bundle. But wouldn't
the LaCIE BlueEye calibrator or the NEC SpectraView or the defunct SONY
Artisan/Sequel fall into that category?

None that I could see the last time I looked at that software. I don't own
it personally but I did put Aperture through its pace last week in Apple's
new NYC downtown store and didn't notice anything to that effect in the
Preferences. You're thinking of PhaseOne?

Yes, I've heard it referred to by both. Basically I was referring to a
"purpose built/tuned" colorimeter.

My question was regarding "tuned" colorimeters specifically, but yes, I
should open it up to software correction matrices as well, since the
matrices matching the monitor spectra to the measurement device could be
included therein as well. Thanks for reminding me of that.

Exactly. I'm wondering how many options are available out there where the
colorimeter is tuned to the specific display's source primaries, either by a
built in matrix in the measurement device, or by software for a particular
measurement device/display combination. Common sense would say that this
would be most accurate method of profiling a display next to using a
spectroradiometer. Of course limitations of the display may still lead to
less than perfect softproofing results (gamut limitations, uniformity
issues, ect).

The department next door to us has a xerox 8000 (digital press?), and
they've done nothing to color manage it. They've asked me to take a look at
it. Is anyone here familiar with the software that drives it? I've never
used it, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I have an i1 pro and the profile maker 5 suite of apps.
Thank you.

Question - why would you want to profile a camera? I've never seen it to
work. Just means you have a new starting point from which you need to do
your adjustments, IMHO.

Marco: Played around with ColorThink Pro and managed to get it to do what I
want. With a little bit of workflow smoothing I think we have a winner -

For those of us working with professional photographers in the areas of fine
art reproduction and product photography, camera profiling not only works,
but it is an essential part of the daily workflow.
Aperture's lack of custom profile support is the major reason I have not
used it for my photography.

That's wrong. Quato uses a correction matrix (or specific calibration matrix
as you might name it too) for quite some time. This feature was introduced
with the wide-gamut "Intelli Proof 230 Excellence" Displays in January 2007.
Our reference measurements are made with a Minolta CS-1000 and CS-200, so
the display specific calibration matrix will give far superior results in
comparison to a default calibration matrix which must match a "default
standard display" whatever the manufacturer of the colorimeter chooses this
to be.
Every display will benefit from a custom calibration matrix, but wide-gamut
displays will benefit especially, because the colorimeters are normally
calibrated to one or more sample "standard" displays.
Maybe Tom Lianza can tell us more about the displays X-Rite chooses for that
purpose.
Best regards
Peter Karp

As far as I know, Capture One Pro from Phase One is the only raw processor
that supports user selection of ICC input profiles at this time.

Hi All,
Yesterday I upgraded to Leopard 10.5.2. I just launched Colorthink Pro and
was unable to rotate or resize a 3d graph of my profile. This never happened
before. Has anyone upgraded to Leopard 10.5.2 who has successfully rotated a
3d graph of a profile?
Thanks in advance

ColorThink Pro 3 rotates 3D graphs on my PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.5.2. No

Works fine here using CTPro 3.0.1b18.

Raw Developer and Bibble do as well. RD is superb as a processor, lacks all
the necessary workflow additions and database functionally I require and
thus I use Lightroom.
For non repro work, the LACK of ICC profiles in Lightroom is a non issue for
me. The question we need to ask users is this: Is there a lack of current
rendering tools that keep you from producing the rendering appearance you
desire? If so, are you SURE an ICC profile would be the fix for this?
The ICC (who has a pretty good idea about such issues) has this white paper
with respect to using ICC profiles with digital cameras:

What kind of cameras are you referring to? I've been doing art repro with
digital backs, primarily Hassey, for 5 years, and gave up on back profiling
years ago. However, the software that drives my backs has a repro mode,
which eliminates the curve most software / firmware adds to images by
default. Also, using a series of known targets within the shot area for the
art repro does wonders. Giclies are virtual copies of the originals.
Curious to hear more - I haven't look at back profiling in probably 2 to 3
years now, cause it wasn't mature enough back then!
TIA
