I've just spent the last month getting all of our media dialed into a
Z6100 thru it's internal PS rip, and thru our onyx 7.1 workstation.
If they're using the on-board rip, there's a (if it's like the Z6100)
CD-ROM with a suite of color apps that are pretty straight forward.
Basically a "one-click" icc profiling solution, and it places the new
icc under the media specified in the printers built in media menu
under "custom medias". It uses the built in i1 to set the density,
calibrate, and read the icc. IIRC, you can choose how many swatches
you want for the icc swatch set.
It's all really simple. It should guide them thru the process, tho
once finished, it will offer advice on what to purchase for a more
complete profiling solution. ;¬)
Feel free to ask specifics if you'd like. I have to head back into
work sunday and will gladly dig thru the software for you.
As far as quark 7 goes, I'd make sure they know what color spaces were
used in the images they designed, and then if they're printing direct
to the Z3100, save the qxd document out thru distiller as a pdfX3.
I've only used the printers built in server (or production house 7.1)
to send jobs, and it'll let you choose to use an icc workflow. Choose
the input profiles, and then it will do the conversion from the file
to the medias icc internally. (sorry if I'm incorrectly using
buzzwords and terminology...never been the one to offer advice
before :¬P )

A client of mine is a small agency, (about 10 people), with an HP
Z3100. Their workflow has them printing from Quark 7 and Illustrator
CS3. Since I have not worked with this printer before I had a few
questions I was hoping the list members could answer.
1) I know this has a built in EyeOne and can build it's own profiles.
How are the profiles then applied?
2) Since the client does not have a RIP running this printer what
would be the best way to get color managed prints when printing from
Quark 7? And Illustrator?
3) I know Quark 6.5 had poor color management at the best. How much
better is Quark 7's. (I know it has better options - how well do they
work?)
Thanks!
