When I replaced the last color laser I looked at all these issues.
First criteria was I want the absolute best and consistent color I
could get printing from a computer.
Why do I need a separate RIP for a copier? I do not know why I need a
separate RIP. Is that a requirement to print PS or PDF to it?
Can copy and print from a copier with prefect color? Better or as good
as scanning from a profiled scanner and printing to a Laser Printer
with built in RIP and calibration. The answer to that was no!
Even though leasing a copier (240-250 series) was cheaper money wise I
was never convinced that the quality was as good as the color laser
Phaser 7760.
Everyone will have to decide what there needs are but for me it was
top quality for short run flyers etc. not the occasional copying. I
have yet to see a copier with real consistent color. Like I said
before I am shocked and I never expected the consistency that the
Phaser 7760 has. From what I know Xante has some laser printer that
claim to be this good but no lease/metered supplies program.
If you really need a copier you will have to decide if you can live
with it color deficiencies or if there is another workflow that you
can utilize.
