It's not just for page elements where these "preserve purity" device
link options are desirable, there's a case to be made for standard
imagery as well, even with RGB-to-CMYK conversions. You could also
argue that not having to make the trip in/out of a PCS has its
advantages.

I'd love to see what you have coming. I believe device links are the
wave of the future in terms of saving press consumables and as a
method to bring a press to meeting a standard print specification.
