You're coming at this from a hands-on implementation perspective whereas
the thrust of my message had to do with the language we use in discussing K
generation.
I stated that the User has complete control in creating the neutral axis
inkings. How each Profile App implements these controls is vendor
specific. The 5 pts of control I mentioned are in principle sufficient to
provide any vendor with the guidance (or 'hints') by which to implement
their own K gen scheme.
Regarding the specific question you pose on "quadtone profiles", I will say
this - the default settings of any UI controls are intended to produce a
'well-behaved' profile - to hit its sweet spot as it were. If you start
twirling dials and pushing sliders to their limits, you're going to come
off that sweet spot and head toward some sort of boundary condition imposed
either by physics or the particulars of that vendors implementation. A
well crafted UI will let you near that boundary but still keep you inside
the corral. It could be that the extreme 'convex' K shape you want brings
you too close to the edge and hence the UI won't let you get there from
here.
