I think this is the only solution to optimize the reproduction and print
process.
Adjust images in the file. Not on the press.
Create perfect proofs so the customer knows what he gets.
Differences between proof and press create the ultimate confusion.
If the printer has to process incorrect separated files the correction
of TAC and K can be done via DVL's.
All files in the signature have to be "harmonized" for print production.
The presses are far to expensive to fiddle around with substantial color
corrections. The new presses (18.000 on a sheet fed and 40.000 copies
on a 96-page web offset press) are even more expensive.
In those cases (perfectors with up to12 plates and web presses with up
to 24 huge plates) all signatures have to be harmonized for optimal results.
Prepress has never been so important. Our industry needs to limit costs,
improve quality and has to accept that the creators and printers have
to help each other.
If the printer does not have enough influence on the quality of the files,
he needs knowledge and tools (such as DVL correction) to correct
and harmonize the files.
I'am glad that technologies such as GCR, UCR and DVL are finally
part of the toolbox of printers. They need hem.
