I don't understand why, as professionals, we shouldn't use a profiling
application to generate versions of a profile with varying types of black
generation. Is it just because we can't or don't want to afford the price
tag of the professional app?
I myself have done the type of mixed black generation that you describe,
with success, using ProfileMaker as my tool to produce versions of a profile
with different types of black generation.
A "profile editing" capability within Photoshop is the wrong place to look,
in my opinion.
Furthermore, profiles are far more structurally sound, balanced and reliable
when they are generated anew with an app like ProfileMaker rather than
"edited".
