Making IDCS3 specific profiles is probably the easiest route. Also be
aware, there is also I difference printing from IDCS3 on the Intel
chip or the PPC chip.
If you need a RIP for other reasons maybe not, but I think better
money is spent on profiling software than a RIP now days. If you to
print long and are going with Epson you probably need a RIP. If you
going with Canon a RIP is not necessary. I believe HP can print long
length but I am not 100% sure about that.

I just upgraded to Indesign CS3. I'm on an Intel Mac and am trying
to print to a desktop RGB printer (Epson R2400). I have successfully
printed to this device with many papers and excellent color managed
results from PS3, and Indesign 2.0. Now I have the dreaded dark
issue. For RGB printing, I understand I may have to make new
profiles from targets placed in IDCS3 with no color management. Is
this the only workable solution? I have looked at the threads on
this topic and wonder if there is some new solution I'm not aware
of. Pretty darn crazy of Adobe to not fix this.
Can anyone recommend RIP software that circumvents this issue, is
affordable and upgradable when I switch to a pro level Epson or
Canon or HP?
