Marco -
You are quite right.
- First I would expect every ColorMunki and EyeOne to come with a
utility to check the user's system. In my opinion a system that can
deliver a pass/fail from a patchset on the print edge and help the
user set up the color would become a bestseller.
- Second I would expect every printer costing more than $500 to come
with a spectro-on-a-chip that would be good enough for checking even
if it isn't quite good enough to create profiles.
- Why is it so hard for the software industry to agree to pass/fail
tests of each component in a multi-vendor tool chain ?

Give this type of user a task that is even a bit more complicated than clicking a couple of "OK" buttons, and steam starts coming out of their ears -- and they start blaming everyone *else* for the inevitably poor results.

You're asking him to spend *yet more money* to buy either the HP inkjet or a spectrophotometer, both of which prospects Joe will confront with a contemptuous sneer and a dismissive wave of the hand.
