Very true. Which means that, at a professional level, things will probably keep being in a state of flux for the foreseeable future, with workflows constantly changing and adapting to changing circumstances. And we wouldn't want it any other way, either.
If anyone believes that there will be, or there should be, a day when color management is developed up to a point where there is nowhere further to go, and that then there will finally be software that deals flawlessly with all the myriad elements that are needed to be put in the right place and in the right sequence for optimal results within a great number of user scenarios -- well, I have a bridge that I want to sell them (you know, a red suspension one in the SF Bay Area -- yea, it's mine! why? you hadn't heard?).

Bingo! Exactly.

Plenty of those in this forum, I regret to say.

Think back of 1998-1999, and thank the heavens for how far we've come in less than a decade. It amazes me whenever I think about the giant leaps CM has taken in such a short time. We should be THANKFUL to all the dedicated, bright and daring risk-takers who have made possible this magnitude of progress (yes, including X-Rite... <g> See? I'm not that ungrateful...).

If one wants brainless workflows, one must then be OK with the type of results that ensue. Which many people are, sadly enough.
Not all users want top-notch results, true. But let's not lose sight of why we have forums like this one: to *elevate* our craft and its results -- not to find ways to beat others in a race to the bottom.
