Mo,
sRGB tone response curve is very similar to AdobeRGB gamma 2.2 exponential
function. Please read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRGB
In practical terms, the tone response curve from sRGB and AdobeRGB can be
considered an exponential 2.2 function, except for minor numerical problems
described in the above Wikipedia article.
The main difference between AdobeRGB and sRGB is the chromaticity of the
green primary (0.21, 0.71 for AdobeRGB and 0.3, 0.6 for sRGB in xy
coordinates) not the tone response curve.
Best regards,
Lorenzo

sRGB is based upon the average monitor color space. Monitor color
spaces are not linear. sRGB is not the best working space to use to
edit images because it's not linear. Adobe RGB is far more linear
because it has been created to compensate for how Photoshop's power
curve has been tweaked / created and has not changed to the best of my
knowledge since it's inception.
