Hi Bob,
I think you may just be over thinking this a bit.
I expect the difference you see is between sRGB and your display's native behavior.... although that depends somewhat on which browser you are viewing your images in.
Try this. After converting your image to sRGB in Photoshop, temporarily assign your monitor profile to the image. If you see the same color problem then that's the issue.
Your display, when sent raw sRGB values, displays them more saturated and red than sRGB.
Are we talking about your new HP display?
