Color Management Land mines
Color Management Land mines

That's what I have an issue with Stephen, all the exceptions to the rules.
It is tough enough getting folks to use a profile for their printer. If you add a complicated workflow then they start to try and figure kluges to simplify. Color accuracy usually suffers then.
That's why I like the Fiery workflow with "Let Printer Determine Color". The operator just prints with that, the Rip applies the profile(s) and all printers with that system print alike. Adding another potential setting for special printing circumstances adds more complexity. Luckily, most large offices do not use Onyx Rips but they do use HPZ6100ps printers.
Please pardon me while I vent my frustration over the continuing rocket science of color management.
My goal is to bring it to more people, not just the few who populate this list and are willing to roll up their sleeves and get the wrenches out. When I set up an office with 300 workstations, they do not want to see what goes on under the hood. They want all their printers to print alike and all files to print the same on all printers. Having a simple workflow allows them to get the color results they want and to get their daily work done without being color experts too.
The color preferences in Creative Suite, Rip systems like Fiery, self-profiling printers like the Z6100ps and profile by mail services like Chromix all help me to offer this kind of workflow. Adding these little color setting glitches in your main applications is a real headache for all involved. In a perfect world...

Probably the latter though I surmise your 'average user' wouldn't be
on this list, nor probably care very much either.
Once discriminating users arrive at a satisfactory set of parameters
for their needs, sticking by it is they key.
That there are pitfalls lurking with changes to routine settings or
when tweaking a workflow, they're pretty well accustomed to.
