I agree that we've gone a bit overboard here, and apologize for
contributing to the polemic tone.
On the other hand, I know this issue well. I have talked personally
to Thomas Knoll about this issue of camera profiles. I have held
discussions or phone meetings with Xrite, Fuji, Jenoptik, Leaf, Phase,
and a couple of slightly larger camera manufacturers about this issue
and closely related ones. These discussions have led to some very
precisely formulated technical proposals that have been circulated. I
have written my own simple camera profiler. So I have done my homework
here and fobbing me off with the names of famous "smart minds" won't
help.
Anyway, the whole business will soon be moot, I think. We are now
moving over into the fun world of video, and here matching color
across segments and different model cameras is harder. So I suspect
that we will see nicely profiled workflows arise in the video arena.
