Martin,
Open up your MX4 and look at the dE stats and you'll probably find that
0/100/0/100 and 100/0/0/100 are a couple of the worst patches. There's a
couple of ways you might be able to improve things; 1) use a much larger
chart (4,000+ patches) to build the gamut file for the MX4 or 2) you may
have to modify your starting MX3 files. Look at the Printer Gradation
values in the MX3 calibration file you're using and see if the magenta
channel is maxed out to 100%.
So the MX3 is the file where one sets the per-channel ink limits? I'm
not familiar with GMG as yet but as we are about to buy an Epson 7880
with GMG, I am interested in every bit of help to get it going soon.
Does anyone know when the Epson 7900 will hit the market? Is it worth
waiting?
I have prepared a testchart "theDarkSideOfTheMoon". I contains all
patches of FOGRA39 below L=12:

Would any of the x880/GMG users be so kind as to send me his
measurements together with informations about the proofing paper used?
This could help us choosing the right paper.
BTW: large Delta E's at the dark end are not pretty, but I think one
should not overestimate them as colors with L < approx. 12 are rare in
practice. Furthermore I think FOGRA39 is a very "optimistic" definition
of the capabilities of a offset press in this regard: I guess one will
not run across offset prints on matte coated papers with Lmin about 8
very frequently in practice. Am I right?
Thank you,
Klaus
