Meaningful way? That is logic that assumes the lack of ICC profiles in
a converter is meaningless or that the profiles you mention have
value, something you've not proven in either case.
One could easily say: As can be seen from Aperture, Lightroom and ACR,
both or which are considered by many professional photographers as
very high quality, proprietary profiles can be employed in a
meaningful way in the image rendering pipeline.
One fact that everyone -except apparently Adobe- agrees on is that
there are both esthetic and exact aspects to Raw rendering.
Everyone expect Adobe doesn't agree.
The existence of these converters proves that the ICC-ignorant choices
made in Lightroom and ACR are not a necessity.
Or it proves they do depending on what side of the argument you're on
WHEN you use simplistic statements as you continually do here, without
any demonstrative examples of the contrary.
This tact you take seems familiar (see http://www.brucelindbloom.com/index.html?DanMargulis.html)
. We could substitute the analysis by altering the challenge here by
saying:
"When considering all Raw converters lacking the usage of ICC camera
profiles, these Raw converters show no advantage."
Standards evolve.
Most often at a glacial pace which should never hold back technology
companies from building better mousetraps for their customers.
