>>There's a couple of ways you might be able to improve things; 1)
use a much larger chart (4,000+ patches) to build the gamut file for
the MX4 or 2) you may have to modify your starting MX3 files. Look at
the Printer Gradation values in the MX3 calibration file you're using
and see if the magenta channel is maxed out to 100%.>>
Regarding troublesome patches, you might have improvement by simply
selectively editing a small range of patches based off the errant
patch within GMG's profile editor or editing the CMYK color values for
that particular fulcrum within the profile (not that I recommend
altering just one patch, but it can be done). Delta values can give
you an idea of the correction needed, and if you can edit within a
reasonable delta E, monitor it after a bit of time and a few printer
calibrations. From my experience, sometimes those darker patches can
bounce around a bit when re-calibrating. If this is the case, then you
might try Terry's solutions, but I'd go with editing before I'd start
all over measuring a 10,000 patch chart or editing the printer
gradation values like some half-crazed, spectrophotometer-wielding
color monkey (uh...not to be confused with the quality Xrite product)
just to fix one errant patch. I'd also add that editing the printer
gradation values within the mx3 is also a good way to screw things up
in a hurry if you aren't too careful. If your using a GMG supplied mx3
for their paper, or one from their start kit, it should not have
printer gradation values that are totally maxed out.
I have tried using large-patch count targets in creation of the gamut
files and it did offer improvement...or at least speeded things up.
But I'll never try this with an ICColor again, which prefers to lock
up on the last strip of an 11,000 patch target.

that but that's what I recall).
I have a limitation of 11467 patches here.
