Uli,
I got numbers, and I reported them. It's called science.
Ah! Its a first step along the science road. The next, and vital,
step is getting someone else to repeat the experiments and get the
same numbers. Only then can we assume the techniques and
measurements are OK, and the facts are probably true. Then comes
finding explanations for the facts; then more experiments to test
the explanations. And so on. One swallow doesn't make a summer.
When I got into profiling cameras about 2 years ago I did similar
testings with my Konika-Minolta dImage A1 and Canon EOS 20D. I used
ACR and a combo of C1 and basICColor. At that time (*** pre DNG ***)
my conclusion was that ICC profiles with C1/basICColor worked well,
while ACR's approach was not straight forward and took a lot more of
my time to get things done.
The new DNG profiles for me seem to be more like macros to automate
the wealth of adjustments ACR provides. Once you find your personal
settings they help you to speed up your processing. The creation
process of DNG profiles seems to be a personal and subjective way,
while ICC profiles have the feeling of being scientific and based on
measurements and numbers. If there is a reasonable, repeatable,
scientific way (similar to creating ICC-profiles) to create custom DNG-
profiles I would be happy to learn about it. If so, could you provide
some links to a practical approach ?
You know, Adobe isn't the hub of the universe although some people
here certainly behave as if it was.
If you had just presented your results for discussion in an unbiased
manner, and not make derogatory remarks about Adobe, this thread
would have ceased a week or more ago.
From my point of view I can not agree. I had the impression that Uli
tried to defend his position from a scientific perspective, without
any emotion, based on facts and his findings. I had the sense that
some other people got a bit offended and reacted a bit more emotional
than necessary. But this might be due to language understanding (I am
German, too). I never had the feeling that Uli wanted to offend
somebody or to treat Adobe unfair.
Perhaps we should leave it as is for now, and take mislead emotions as
due to different language understandings. We learned about the new
beta profiles, the DNG Profile Editor and a lot of smaller tidbits.
Maybe someone provides the links to that practival approach as stated
above. So the discussion was a worthwhile one, but should end here.
Thanks,
Karsten
