Ah, OK, that's an obvious advantage I didn't think of.
Interesting in the context of the analogy to camera profiles that Eric
introduced: you could argue that different lighting conditions are
similar to different papers. So, assumed that optimally you'd profile
several times for different lighting conditions (^= different papers),
you could avoid that by calibrating the camera once (^= using
ColorBase)) and using generic profiles afterwards.
Of course this would mean you'd have to be able to actually calibrate
your camera; but AFAIK no "ColorBase for cameras" solution is
available yet anywhere. Also there could be several gotchas (can the
calibration work well enough that one generic profile can possibly fit
all cameras of one type?, ...), but it certainly sounds intriguing.
