Exactly. And it doesn't. But Martin missed the significant differences
in the data and processing paths here. I was going to ask him when and
where on his Scanmate he handles demosaicing the bayer pattern but
figured I'd rather not confuse him anymore although he could start

As you point out, getting "raw" high bit linear RGB data from a
trilinear scanner isn't anything at all unique.
