I've also observed more than one MacBook where the USB ports don't allow the device to connect consistently. My eye one will always fail calibration when plugged into the left USB port on my MacBook, but operates fine on the right one and on other computers.

For the record, I drop mine all too often...usb wraps around my chair arm and it gets yanked off the table (fyi: unplug when not in use!). Suffice to say the i1 is a tough little unit.
