Hello. We just received our new i1 iSis and I am beginning to set it up. I
have some questions about the Optical Brightener Compensation Module. First,
can anyone comment in general on how well it works, or should I just build
profiles with the normal module?

For a variety of reasons, we have a purely RGB workflow and do not use a
RIP. On page 8 of the ³OBC user Guide² it states:

³If you have the choice between a CMYK or an RGB workflow, please choose
CMYK. The achievable profile quality is higher using CMYK. в

Since we will continue to use an RGB workflow, my questions are as follows:

1. What can be expected in terms of profile quality with RGB? In other
words, what will be ³lower quality² about the profile?
2. Why is RGB expected to produce a lower quality? According to the manual
and my understanding of how it works, measurements are taken with both
UV-cut and UV only, then the spectral measurement of the patch is modified
to generate the measurement file. This is then used to make the profile. So
why would it matter if the resulting profile is RGB or CMYK if the
modification is made to the spectral data prior to building the profile?

The reason I am asking all these questions instead of just trying it first
is because it is not trivial to get our IT department to install new, unique
software, so I just wanted to get an idea of whether I should pursue
installing the OBC module or not.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Ken
