I must confess I haven't read the SNAP guideline in its entirety. I took the
printer's word for the GCR specification.
Upon closer look in the guide, there's mention of indicating use of GCR on
pp 9-10. Further, Appendix 5 explains the advantages of using GCR (page 65).
To your point, I'm quite surprised why GCR is never explicitly mentioned as
the ideal solution though. Clearly it has the upper hand in terms of
achieving consistent colour from pre-press to press. That's assuming all
parties know what they're doing of course. Printers have never trusted
agencies or design houses to prep their files properly. Thankfully, we (our
agency) have the luxury of outsourcing our pre-press to a film house.
I will keep you posted on this job's progress.
