Hello Johnathan,
GMG Colorproof 05 and Kodak KPS4 are both great products.

Both products let you iteratively refine the printer calibration. This is critical to ensure precise repeatability. Both products give you the ability to match a FOGRA39L reference well within industry-defined tolerances. Both use the Adobe PDF Print engine for PDF processing. Both have outstanding spot-color reproduction (see IPA 2009 spot color results) Both have color-accurate hi-res preview for jobs in queue. And both even give you a selection of printer effects (noise, mottling simulation) to help your proof look more like a press sheet.

GMG has a proprietary "MX" color engine that allows them to do some special things. I believe the benefits of this engine are especially visible when printing "dot-emulations". Colorproof can even take your 1-bits, detect the screens, and create an inkjet proof the both resembles the original screen data and delivers accurate color reproduction. On top of this, Colorproof's new workflows give you a lot of flexibility in how you push jobs through hot-folders: you can use the traditional 1-hotfolder-per-job-type model, or use multiple filters that allow you do drop many kinds of files into the same folder and have Colorproof intelligently determine how files should be processed. It should be noted that GMG can also work with standard ICC profiles, for which they have developed their own CMM. GMG is definitely one of the premier solutions for precision color proofing world-wide.

If you have Prinergy or EVO, KPS4 bolts on to Kodak workflow without requiring additional hot-folder setup. Essentially, KPS and Prinergy/ EVO work together as one big product. Kodak also includes dot-proofing in their standard package, but is more focused on con-tone proofing output. If you are considering moving up to an Epson x900, Kodak has also made an extensive effort to support this printer completely. They are the only RIP manufacturer that currently offers the combined capabilities of driving the printer directly with their own screening (which was specifically developed for the x900), allowing users to to profile both Kodak AND 3rd-party media with native RIP screening, and allowing the user to print certification measurement results in-line, directly on the proof (for verifying against FOGRA, GRACoL, etc...).

In terms of Color precision, when configured properly, both products deliver numbers that are far inside industry specifications. I would even venture to say that both products are within ~0.25dE avg of each other, given same media & printer. If you are thinking of getting an x900 later on on, KPS might tip the scales as it includes support for 2 printers in the box. However, there is a whole host of features in both products and one may have a unique switch that serves your requirement especially well. From a color perspective, with proper installation, you really can't go wrong with either product.

I’m thinking two possibilities to work. A MatchPrint Up-Grade for v4.+

The focus is to work with Fogra39L.
