I should also have added to my previous post that color space
conversions can also cause or add to the problem, so can some of the
automatic "image improvements" that are performed on the image by the
camera and the image processing software.
I suggest you eliminate as many conversions, adjustments,
"improvements", etc., as possible. Then evaluate the image at various
points in the pipeline to see where the color is getting hammered.
Right now you have too many cooks working on the image to determine
the absolute cause, or causes, of the problem.
