Hi Roger,
It is of course recommended to send back to X-Rite every year or so,
BUT that would probably cost more than you paid! I believe it is often
OK to purchase a new Calibration strip every year or so instead for
about £50 GBP, maybe US$75. This will be measured by X-Rite on a
master instrument at about 22 points along the spectrum for white. You
get a CD with the new data which you download to the DTP41 using
Toolcrib, which I can't get to work with my Intel Mac in Leopard, but
works fine with PPC and Tiger. If it is a serial device (not USB) it
may be temperamental on Mac and PC using various varieties of serial
adaptors (Keyspan vs unbranded Chinese) and applications, and
different OS, software updates.
Apparently the daily calibration is very comprehensive.
If you have two units you could, maybe use the same cal strip for
both? You could test them with spot-readings using Toolcrib in
"Terminal" mode.
Best regards

Hello color folks,
I picked up a used DTP41 for dirt cheap recently. Already have
another unit
in fine shape. But, I'm trying to remember what the rules were for
calibration? When we send a unit in for re-certification, I believe
we're
given a new calibration strip. But I remember reading once that it's
not
necessary to send these units it, if we don't doubt that they're in
a bad
shape, and that all that's needed is to purchase a fresh, new
calibration
strip.
I'm going to try to dig my old DTP41 notes and documentation but, in
the
meantime, could anyone help shed some light on this practice? I have
a class
coming up where I'd really like to put this second unit to good use
with my
students.
Best / Roger
