The Spyder2 had a very broad viewing angle; this has been significantly reduced for the Spyder3, increasing measurement accuracy on LCDs and other displays with color variations in angular emissions. The Spyder2 also had a removable baffle for CRT mode, which is not a function of Spyder3. For these reasons you might find the Spyder2 preferable for reading CRTs at extremely low luminance values. But you would also find the Spyder3 superior for LCDs, and especially wide gamut LCDs.
