Putting a control strip under the glass won't really help. The main problem
is the spectra of the colors on the control strip are not the same as the
spectra of the pigments in the artwork. Some of Bob's suggestions may work
reasonably well for general photography, but are not generally recommended
for art reproduction. Derek suggested that he wanted better results that
don't require local edits, but he did not say that the camera profiles were
inherently poor. I would expect the camera profiles he tried are much better
than using levels and a color control strip.
